How To Measure For Blinds
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
- Always measure with a steel tape. Do not use a cloth tape.
- Measure sizes to the nearest eighth of an inch (1/8").
- On your notes clearly indicate which measurement is the width and which is the height.
- Try to always measure the width first, then height.
INSIDE MOUNT APPLICATION
- When you specify an inside mount, provide the exact window opening size. DO NOT TAKE ANY DEDUCTIONS!
- Manufacturers will automatically deduct between 3/8" to 1/2" off the width so your products will operate properly without rubbing against your window frame.
- For vertical blinds, the deductions are 3/8" off the width and 1/2" off the height.
- FOR WIDTH: measure in three places (top, middle, bottom) and use the narrowest width.
- FOR HEIGHT: measure in three places (left, middle, right) and use the longest measurement for all products EXCEPT for vertical blinds and shutters.
OUTSIDE MOUNT APPLICATION
- Outside mounts hang outside the window opening either on the wood frame or above and beyond the wood frame.
- Outside Mounts are necesssary whenever your window openings are too shallow to place a window covering inside.
- To ensure minimum light gaps and maximum privacy:
- for Vertical Blinds: add 4 to 5 inches on each of the four sides for vertical blinds
- for Patio Doors: measure from outside frame to outside frame and add 4 to 5 inches to the width, measure from the top of the frame to the floor and add 1" to the height
- for Horizontal Blinds: add 1 to 1 1/2" on each side (or do not add anything if you are mounting the blind directly to the frame
- for French/Front Doors: measure from outside frame to outside frame and add 2 1/2" to the height, do not add anything to the width
- For outside mounts, specify the exact width and exact height you want the product to be.
- We will make your product the exact size you specify and we will not take any deductions.
